Assessments
Students are assessed in two ways: internally, which the teacher grades according to IB rubric criteria and externally, in which an exam or product is evaluated by a trained examiner. All assessments occur during the senior year.
Internal Assessment (30% of IB grade)
Interactive Oral Activity (based on core themes--10% of IB grade)
Score is derived from at least 3 classroom activities which demonstrate interpersonal communication skills.
Individual Oral Interview (based on options--20% of IB grade)
Student has 15 minutes to examine 2 different captioned pictures before the interview. Talks about the picture for 3-4 minutes and then engages in follow-up discussion with the teacher for 5-6 minutes.
External Assessment (70% of IB grade)
Paper 1 (based on core themes--25% of IB grade)
Text-handling exercises based on four different texts--90 minute testing period
Paper 2 (based on options--25% of IB grade)
One writing exercise of 250-400 words from a choice of five prompts--90 minute testing period
Written Assignment (based on core themes--20% of IB grade)
Intertextual reading followed by a written work of 300-400 words based on the reading plus a 100-word rationale. The exercise is completed over the course of three or four class-periods.
